Faces of the MS GYM #60 w/ Bev Wright
Here is some Q and A with Bev !!
Where were you born and raised and where do you live now?
I was raised in Southampton and then London UK but now live in Leeds.
Do you have any hobbies?
I’m trying to learn Spanish
Who is your biggest support system?
My amazing hubby Steve
What is your greatest challenge with MS?
My mobility. I’m fortunate that I don’t suffer with fatigue, spasms etc. but my walking isn’t great which has a knock on effect to most things.
What is a goal you have for this coming year?
I’d like to start using trekking poles, as at the minute I use a walker his name is Walter.
What is your WHY?
I have so many but the main one is to be able to travel more again with hubby. We were avid travellers pre MS but I know I’ve lost my confidence.
How did you find The MS Gym?
A fellow MSer recommended the Gym to me, I took a look and thought wow this guy is the only person I’ve come across that understands and explains MS so well.
How long did it take for you to find your rhythm, understanding what it takes to be successful in The MS Gym?
I joined the gym Aug 2018, as an ex fitness instructor I thought I’ll zip thru these programmes and I’ll be better in no time. I think it clicked that consistency and even repeating programmes was imperative this time last year. I’ve now just completed 52 weeks of logging in 6 days a week.
What has changed the most for you since starting The MS Gym?
My balance, foot drop and gait have all improved. I know I’ve a long way to go but the gym has the tools for me to achieve my ultimate goal of walking unaided. I’m also much better at celebrating every victory now even if it’s what I used to think was insignificant.
What do you like most about The MS Gym?
The constant information that is shared and how that is the whole package for the mind and body, the support is amazing too.
What helps you keep your mindset in a good place?
My daily practice! I feel I’m being proactive and not just sitting fretting about MS progression. Even on days when I’ve not felt great I’ve logged in and chosen to do a detox or something and I always feel better. There really is something for every eventuality.
What MS Gym program has been the most helpful for you, and why?
I’m currently doing Moving Strong Chair and I love using the bands. I’m so much stronger and I can really tell I’ve done a workout. I love the CGs too they’re phenomenal.
Please list a few victories (physical and / or mental) since joining the MS Gym.
Improved balance, movement back in a very rigid ankle, I can lift toes, I can lift my leg again and my posture is much better. Mentally I no longer sit worrying about “am I getting worse” I put it down to one of those days and move on.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just want to say I love the gym, the programmes, everyone in the team and I’d be lost without it. Thank you and keep up the amazing work.
